Inverness Golf Club was formed on Tuesday 13 November 1883 at a meeting of gentlemen interested in the formation of a golf club, held in the Caledonian Hotel, Inverness. The entry fee was set at five shillings which included the year's subscription. In the formative years Lord Lovat granted the privilege of Muir of Ord for the purpose of playing the game of golf and the inaugural game was played there on Saturday 17 November 1885.
It was in the October 1885 that the club's present location at Culcabock was first referred to as a site for a golf course and play started there on Saturday 13 February 1886.
Culcabock Course is a challenging par 69 SSS 70. Unlike its links neighbours, it is a parkland course wnicn fully tests the straight hitter. Its lush fairways do not give too much run, ensuring that the course plays to its full length of 6,256 yards. The fairways nave narrowed over the years with selective tree planting, hut sensitive straight hitting is generally rewarded with a good lie on lush fairways. The course starts gently hut at the 6th hole is the beginning of the course's own 'Amen Corner' with a tricky approach over the Mill Burn.
The 8tn, 9tn, and 10th are all testing holes with the added factor of the burn to take into account.
