It was in 1877 that the Dornoch Golf Club was founded. 1t was the successor of the Sutherland Golfing Society whose members played at Dornoch and Golspie. The course was then only 9 holes long. But changes were in store. The great Tom Morris came up from St Andrews and laid out "9 proper golf holes." Three years later another 9 holes were added and the fame of the Dornoch course started to spread, even across the Atlantic to America. [ more] |

This Traditional Scottish Golf Links Course was created on the shores of the Moray Firth from a Highland wilderness of whins and heather, and tests the talents of professional and amateur alike. Founded in 1887, Old Tom Morris stretched the course to its present boundaries in 1890. His handiwork was expanded and refined by five times Open champion lames Braid on visits in 1909, 1921 and 1926, since when it has been lengthened but little altered. [ more]

The entry fee was set at five shillings which included the year's subscription.
